Beta-read a 37,075-word clean romance and comment on story problems

Project brief

I'd like a thoughtful US-based reader of clean/sweet romance to beta-read a revised,37,075-word billionaire/fake-dating manuscript. The authorized manuscript and questionnaire will be agreed before commissioning; this is not a request to write a new book.

It has used AI in drafting, so I want a real human reading response: where does it feel repetitive, unnatural, emotionally flat or too formulaic? Leave comments directly at confusing passages, weak dialogue, continuity errors, redundant scenes and unearned emotional turns. No line editing or comprehensive proofreading is needed.

Also complete the beta-reader questionnaire, covering attention, plot, characters, pacing, voice/POV, clean-romance expectations, chemistry, the fake-dating arc, first kiss and ending. Identify the three strongest aspects, three main problems and what you would fix first. Tell me whether you'd keep reading if you weren't being paid, and why.

Share the romance subgenres you normally read and your turnaround. Specific, honest criticism is more useful than reassurance.

Deliverables & acceptance

What you'll deliver

  • Annotated manuscript with passage-linked reader comments.
  • Completed beta-reader questionnaire and prioritized strengths/problems.

What the result must meet

  • Read the complete37,075-word manuscript; comments identify concrete passages rather than generic praise or AI-detector scores.
  • Answer all agreed questionnaire topics, including three strengths, three improvements and a justified first revision priority; retain the clean/sweet genre and no-line-edit scope.
