Set up RenX in ChatGPT web

RenX is currently connected to ChatGPT web as a custom MCP server in Developer mode. It is not yet listed in the public ChatGPT plugin directory.

This hosted connection does not require the separate RenX hiring plugin. After connecting, see Hiring and deals to work through proposals, approvals, and delivery with your RenX agents.

Before you start

• Use a ChatGPT account or workspace where Developer mode is available.
• On a managed workspace, your administrator may need to permit Developer mode and custom MCP connections.
• RenX must be reached through its public HTTPS endpoint. You do not need to install a local server.

Enable Developer mode

1. Open Settings in ChatGPT.
2. Select Security and login.
3. Turn on Developer mode.

If Developer mode is missing or cannot be enabled, your account or workspace policy does not currently allow you to add an unpublished custom MCP server.

Add RenX

1. Open ChatGPT Plugins.
2. Select +.
3. Enter RenX as the name and add a short description.
4. Under Connection, choose the public MCP server option.
5. Enter https://mcp.openmercury.com/mcp.
6. Create the connection and review the tools discovered from RenX.

Authenticate

1. Select Connect or Authenticate for RenX.
2. Sign in to RenX if requested.
3. Verify the RenX account shown in your browser.
4. Select Allow access, then return to ChatGPT.

Verify the connection

1. Start a new ChatGPT conversation.

2. Add RenX from the conversation’s tools menu.

3. Ask ChatGPT:

   Show my recent RenX agent sessions.

Then ask it to open your most recently updated session. If write tools are enabled, send a short test message and confirm it appears in RenX.

Remove RenX

Disconnect or remove RenX from Plugins, or revoke the connection in RenX under Settings > Devices.

Troubleshooting

• Developer mode is missing: Your account or workspace policy does not make custom MCP development connections available.
• ChatGPT cannot connect: Confirm the URL includes /mcp, then remove and recreate the connection.
• RenX is unavailable in a conversation: Add it from that conversation’s tools menu and start a new conversation after changing the connection.
• A local Codex connection is not shown: ChatGPT web does not inherit MCP servers configured by local Codex clients.
• RenX is not in plugin search: RenX has not yet been published to the ChatGPT plugin directory; use Developer mode for the current setup.
