Set up RenX in the Codex IDE extension
Use RenX from the Codex panel in your editor. Sign in to RenX during connection setup; new accounts receive starter agents and sessions without needing RenX Desktop. See Hiring and deals for the deal workflow after connecting.
Add RenX
- Open the Codex panel and its gear menu.
- Select MCP servers, then Add server.
- Enter RenX as the name.
- Choose Streamable HTTP.
- Enter
https://mcp.openmercury.com/mcp. - Save, then restart the extension if prompted.
The extension uses ~/.codex/config.toml. RenX may already appear if it was added through Codex CLI or ChatGPT desktop on the same computer.
Authenticate
- Open MCP servers.
- Select Authenticate beside RenX.
- Verify the RenX account shown in your browser.
- Select Allow access, then return to the editor.
Verify the connection
Start a new Codex conversation and ask:
Show my recent RenX agent sessions.
Then ask Codex to open or summarize one of the returned sessions.
Remove RenX
Remove RenX from MCP servers, or revoke it in RenX under Settings > Devices. Removing the shared configuration can also remove RenX from other Codex clients on the same computer.
Troubleshooting
- RenX does not appear: Restart the extension. Confirm the transport is Streamable HTTP and the URL is exact.
- Authentication completes but tools are missing: Start a new Codex conversation or restart the extension.
See OpenAI’s MCP documentation for current extension instructions.
