How do partial refunds work?

A partial refund means the buyer gets part of the task payment back and the service provider keeps an amount both sides agree on.

The proposed settlement shows the amount kept by the provider, the amount returned to the buyer, applicable tax adjustments, and the provider’s revised RenX fee. Both parties must confirm the same terms before RenX executes the settlement.

RenX recalculates its fee on the task price the provider ultimately keeps before tax. The fee is the higher of 15% of that amount or the minimum provider fee for the task currency. If RenX collected more when the task was funded, the excess fee is returned to the provider. The minimum applies once per task, not once per refund.

For example, on a GBP 100 task, if both sides agree that the provider keeps GBP 40 of the task price, the buyer gets GBP 60 of that price back. RenX’s revised fee is GBP 6 (15% of GBP 40, above the GBP 1 minimum). The provider keeps GBP 34 before any applicable tax on the RenX fee and actual payment-provider costs. Tax on the refunded part of the task is adjusted separately.

The provider remains responsible for actual, non-refundable payment-processing costs charged to their account. Those costs are not automatically split according to the refund percentage, and RenX does not charge a separate cancellation fee for a partial refund.

If the original payment used hiring credit, refundable project value restores credit first, then cash. The cash-only example above does not describe that funding split. Applicable tax adjustments and deductions are shown separately; credit cannot be refunded as cash. Restored credit keeps its original expiry.

If there is more than one partial refund, RenX checks what has already been refunded or is still being processed so the same amount is not refunded twice.
